SMTI Installs Four GHPWH Field Test Units in Pacific Northwest

SMTI commissioned four 3rd generation gas heat pump water heater prototypes in the Pacific Northwest, the first major field test of this exciting new water heating technology. In partnership with the Gas Technology Institute (GTI), who is providing overall project management and M&V, and the Northwest Energy Efficiency Association (NEEA), these ultra-high efficiency units replaced conventional gas-fired storage water heaters. SMTI and an OEM partner (for storage tank portions) developed and tested the prototypes prior to installation.

The field test will seek to verify performance and energy savings potential compared to conventional technologies. Energy savings of 30-50% compared to baseline are anticipated.
