Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with senior engineers to assist in developing manufacturing processes, implementing new manufacturing methods, and testing proposed processes / changes. Identification of manufacturing deficiencies and developing appropriate solutions related to materials, processes, and tooling is an essential function of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Designs tools and machines used to manufacture products.
  • Reviews production program equipment, hardware, and tooling; makes recommendations for purchase, repairs, or replacement.
  • Involved in the development of new processes, methods, and production controls.
  • Installs new equipment and ensures that it operates correctly; trains others to operate new machinery.
  • Prepares operations manuals for new or existing equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, and applications; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology and processes.
  • Performs time studies and develops lean methodology to increase OEE in all areas of manufacturing including welding, robotic assembly, vacuum brazing and CNC machining.
  • Contributes to product design reviews through Design For Manufacturing (DFM) mindset, evaluation of feasibility and manufacturability of designs, and contributing to cost effective design.
  • Drives completion and oversight of Process FMEAs.
  • Develops test procedures and equipment for testing products, components and sub-assemblies.
  • Machine design including solid modeling, detailed manufacturing drawings, and completes assembly drawings.
  • Defines appropriate metrics for monitoring process health.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimal travel required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Two or more years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable success in a fast-paced work environment that includes multifaceted responsibilities.
  • Willingness to participate in a “hands on” production and manufacturing environment on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying engineering principles and practices to company product development needs, such as thermodynamics, engineering mechanics, strength of materials, material science, heat transfer, combustion, and fluid mechanics.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess problems or issues with manufacturing equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of production principles and techniques including welding (MIG and TIG), machining, and fabrication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software, Solidworks preferred.
  • Programming ability of robotic assembly and welding equipment preferred.
  • Experience with CNC programming preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis FEA, Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD, Design of Experiment and Reliability Engineering is desirable.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt preferred.
  • Highly developed oral/written communication skills, technical reporting and business correspondence.
  • Machine design including solid modeling, detailed manufacturing drawings, and complete assembly drawings.

Mechanical Engineering Technician

Assist mechanical engineers in the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of tools, fixtures, machines, and other devices. Including creating sketches and rough layouts, recording and analyzing data, and report creating of their findings.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate specifications in design drawings prior to adding or replacing tools.
  • Prepare layouts and drawings of the assembly process and parts to be made, usually using three-dimensional design software.
  • Recommend cost-effective changes in equipment design to improve reliability and safety. 
  • Review instructions and blueprints to ensure that project plans follow test specifications, procedures and meet objectives.  Valuate specifications in design drawings prior to adding or replacing tools.
  • Plan, produce, and assemble mechanical parts for products, such as industrial equipment.
  • Set up and conduct tests of complete units and their components, and record results.
  • Compare test results with design specifications and with test objectives and recommend changes, if needed, in products or test methods
  • Make calculations for business estimates, such as of labor costs and equipment lifespan.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 year Associates Degree in a technical field and five years related work experience, or equivalent prior work experience.  BS in an Engineering related discipline preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience with manufacturing equipment and systems, including robotics, welding, machining and metal formation.
  • Experience with CNC programming preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance is desirable.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with Windows based software such as MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Developed oral/written communication skills including technical reporting.

Welder, Class B

Weld tubing and heat exchanger assemblies per drawing requirements with near 100% weld integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Set up using fixturing/tooling and prints components to be welded.
  • Weld components per drawing and WPS.
  • Weld per requirements GTAW and GMAW.
  • Review components and ensure visually that component welds are acceptable to be leak tested.
  • Demonstrate weld integrity tested by radiography and/or other methods either destructive or non-destructive.
  • Demonstrate 98% leak free GAHP welded assemblies over a 6 month rolling period.
  • Review component placement/fitment to drawing requirements.
  • Record completion of work orders as required.
  • Mentoring of B welders.
  • Other assigned functions such as cleaning parts or building assemblies.

Requirements

  • AWS certifications in GTAW and GMAW in all welding positions.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings for all weld parameters.
  • Pass leak testing of a minimum of 10 consecutive SMTI test weldments. (Part TX1358)
  • Good attitude and work ethic to provide quality weldments within the standard cost guidelines.

Manager, Manufacturing Engineering

Responsible for the coordinated efforts of the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop, improve and maintain manufacturing equipment and processes for high quality and low-cost production of advanced heat pumps and accessories.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and development of manufacturing equipment, processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for plant layout and manufacturing facilities planning.
  • Assistance in preparation of strategic plan and budget.
  • Supports engineering, purchasing and quality with sourcing and costing manufactured and purchased components from qualified vendors.
  • Works with suppliers to insure on-time delivery of parts.
  • Assist with product designs and specifications, evaluate the feasibility and manufacturability of designs, and drive completion and oversight of Process FMEAs.
  • Assist in the development of Bills of material and work instructions for production.
  • Assist in FMEA’s pre-production planning and initial samples moving into production.
  • Work cooperatively with Quality to develop and maintain manufacturing and purchased part quality standards, audit procedures, and in-line quality checks.
  • Actively contribute to the machine design from the manufacturing/assembly engineer’s perspective and liaise with other engineers in the team during the design and manufacturing process to ensure that the manufacturing/assembly process requirements are adhered to.
  • Design test apparatus and equipment and develop procedures for testing products, components and sub-assemblies.
  • Coordinates prototyping projects with product engineering manager and engineers, including support for material and component sourcing.
  • Direct or indirect supervision of technicians.
  • Ensure further development of associates through performance evaluation, development of training plans, and feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel required.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, but a combination of training and experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying engineering principles and practices to company product development needs, such as thermodynamics, engineering mechanics, strength of materials, material science, heat transfer, combustion, and fluid mechanics.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in sheet metal design, tooling design, and equipment design, which includes interfacing with multiple departments to coordinate project activities.
  • Experience in business practices and financial analysis of engineering projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience with large scale, multi-departmental manufacturing is desired.
  • Familiarity with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis FEA, Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD, Design of Experiment and Reliability Engineering is desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing and six sigma tools is desired.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and 3D modelling software packages is desired. Experience with Solidworks® is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software and project management software.
  • Highly developed oral/written communication skills, technical reporting and business correspondence.
  • Previous Project Management experience with demonstrated abilities to direct a team with wide-ranging capabilities and on-time completion within designated budget.

Quality Specialist – Braze/Weld

The Quality Specialist works to ensure high performing product by monitoring quality of brazed and welded components.

Responsibilities

  • Performs leak checks of brazed components
  • Performs leak checks of welded components and full system.
  • Ensures all units are serialized and all leak tests are recorded.
  • Works with welding team to identify repeated problems and work towards continuous improvement.
  • Performs inspection on pre-brazed components and sub-assemblies.
  • Follows process for identifying and containing non-conforming material.
  • Prepares and inspects samples of welded components to ensure good weld quality.
  • Performs other quality audits & inspections as needed.
  • Assists in training new manufacturing personnel on braze and weld quality standards/specifications.

Qualifications

  • Basic Metrology and use of various measurement tools.
  • Ability to read engineering prints and translate to quality testing protocols.
  • Experience with MIG and TIG Welding standards.
  • Experience with ISO/TS or other quality system.
  • Eye for detail.
  • Self-directed performer, who does not require constant supervision.
  • Two year technical degree preferred.  
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector preferred.
