As we enjoy a delicious dinner at our favorite restaurant, a whole lot of hot water is being used in the back. Excited about the results of our gas-driven heat pump demonstration in the LA where our gas heat pumps reduced gas use by 48% compared to the baseline water heaters, and delivered an additional 14% reduction in electric power use due to the “free” space cooling. Further proof that deep carbon emission reduction is achievable for water heating while allowing the business to keep using low cost natural gas. As the percentage of RNG increases in the gas grid, deeper carbon reductions are possible. Thank you Gas Technology Institute, California Energy Commission and SoCalGas for a great project!
