SMTI recently achieved a 1.41 COP (coefficient of performance) at design conditions for our “Beta” 140,000 Btu/hr GAHP model. The commercial-sized (for water and space heating) prototype was developed by SMTI in cooperation with Oak Ridge National Lab and an OEM partner.
Testing at ORNL in October was below original target (COP of 1.35), which was attributed to an underperforming component. SMTI replaced the component with an upgraded version and subsequent testing provided the expected leap in COP.
Plans are in place to begin field testing in 2017. Check back for future updates!
